We had a horrible experience at this hotel in Venice. We were told we had the only room with air conditioning and that's one of the reasons our particular room was more expensive than the others. The AC was working when we checked in. But after we came back from dinner the unit was not working. And, Venice is very hot in the summer. So, I talked to the clerk (who was not the one we had when we checked in) who then told me we never had AC. I then showed him the unit in the room. He still denied we had AC. I never complain but this guy was extremely rude. And, I never write bad reviews but I feel I need to say something because I don't want someone else to experience this.

Many things in Venice will be a little more expensive and a little less nice, and this place fits that description dead on. Hotel Astoria is in a great location right by Piazza San Marco, which is very convenient in a place like Venice. However, I found it was one of my least favorite hostels that I stayed at in Europe. The room I was in had four beds, three of which were cramped tightly together, and the bathroom was pretty outdated, with a shower head that had to be held by hand. There may not be many better options in Venice, but I will look for one on my next trip.

I can't believe a hotel this cheap can be located where it is! Don't settle for a cheaper hotel on the mainland when you have this excellent option.
They also have a great VOIP telephone system that lets you call home from your room for 10c per minute... Awesome
