Selma

Probably the best hotel in Selma. The rooms, while not super roomy, were clean & had nice decor. In our room (1 king), there’s a pocket door to the bathroom with a tub shower. My favorite is the courtyard in the center of the hotel & the balcony with a view of the Edmund Pettus bridge. There are chairs & a bistro table on the balcony to enjoy the view. There’s a Keurig, a safe, but no mini fridge or microwave. As of this writing (Sept 2022) the restaurant inside is only bar food (wings, dips, a cheeseburger) & only a continental breakfast. The staff (very nice) said a full menu is in the works so if that’s important to you, I would ask on the status. We stayed on a Fri night & I couldn’t hear inside or outside noises. Hope this is helpful.

Great location and great staff. We love historical hotels and this one did not disappoint. They modern updates to the rooms are well done and the middle courtyard is nicely done, along with the outside courtyard area along the bank of the river. There were just a couple of things that are so small, I won’t even mention them…overall it was a great experience that I would recommend.

I would like to start off by once again singing the praises of Anthony T. At Selma St. James Hotel. Anthony is southern hospitality!! He met us upon our arrival with a smile and welcoming energy! He was always willing to help and guide us in the right directions. ,in between the laughter. Also I have a special needs daughter and an emotional s upport companion 💗 which was treated with patients and grace by Anthony as well! He will run his own one day!

Nice rooms. Boiler was broke and was told it would be repaired that evening, it was not and nor was it the following morning. I checked out and was told by the attendant that the rate would be adjusted. I received email receipt around lunch with no adjustment. I went back and was told I would be given a $30 reduction in room cost, which was appreciative, only issue was the manager gave a $30 reduction on original receipt. She did not understand that I should have had the rate adjusted and then pay taxes on the adjusted price, instead I paid taxes on the full price then credited back 30 dollars. No big deal as it was taxes on 30 that should not have been paid, but they do need more competent managers to understand the process and have issues resolved properly without the customer trying to explain why it was not correct. Oh well, it's the world we live in now.

Pick this hotel! Love the impeccable charm and classy intimate vibe of the beautiful restored hotel. Superior front desk service. Excellent and well priced food. Our food server Lakisha was attentive, and made us feel at home. She was the essence of Southern Hospitality.

My room was very clean, front desk called my room about 15 min after check in to see if I needed anything, which was nice. Alma, clerk at front seak, was a delight to talk to- breakfast bar had a waffle maker which was pretty neat. Area isn’t the best, but I’ve lived in worse. Not once did I feel unsafe, just be aware of your surroundings. I had no issues. Will stay here again if I’m ever back in town. Thanks!

The worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Never ever ever go here. The staff was extremely nice, but the property was rundown. The sheets were stained. There was mold in my room. No control was taken on the premises as people threw a pool party blasting their music all night. One room on the second floor decided to grill right outside of their door putting the entire building at risk. It was disgusting. The ice machine hadn't been serviced in nearly 5 years according to its records. If this place were a country, it would require UN relief. Just an awful place to stay. Don't let the pictures on their website fool you. I ended up cancelling the next night's reservation at midnight of the first evening. I will let the pictures tell you the rest.

Zero stars, by far this is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in my whole entire 34 years of life! Where should I begin? As soon as my family and I checked in from a 12 hour drive, the front desk smelled of pee, at that point I should have turned around but of course reservations were already made. So it took 30 mins to check in, as we go to our room no cable for the TVs. The room is not the cleanest. Mold toilet , smells of cigarettes but is a non smoking room. Night 2 still no TV, and I just happen to look at my credit card activity, and I have a hold for the total room stay. I paid with a different card other than the card I held the reservations with. That’s why I specifically selected Pay at hotel. So I talked to the young lady at the front desk, who became rude and very unprofessional. I did say I will have a talk with your manager once He gets in. Exact words. “Because you need to talk to someone more professional, yea that’s what they all say”. I’m applaud, I never received such poor service. STAY AWAY . I will never book with Quality Inn or Choice Hotels again!

We are Hurricane Michael evacuees. This hotel in newly renovated, new beds, new flooring. The price is right, the staff bent over backwards to be accommodating. Any problem with cleanliness was immediately corrected. They are pet friendly. We are in the seasonal rental business and appreciate the quick response and friendliness of the staff. We would stay here again.

The bed was very comfortable. The furnishing is nice. However, the cleaning crew was below average. The hotel smelled nice for 20 minute. After the spray left, the odor from the carpet was prominent. I saw the lady cleaning as we were leaving. She doesn't even go windows. When you stay at Quality Inn, visitors expect the hotel to live up the motto: Get Your Money's worth. They owe us some change. The breakfast biscuits were hard. The coffee was lukewarm. Hot eggs and biscuits.
